The Next Big Thing: The Newest Swedish Popstar To Take Over The World Is Zara Larsson

hopeinlightly.tumblr.com
With February in full swing, it looks like Sweden is going to take over my musical output as Melodifestivalen, the competition to see which masterpiece goes to represent the country in Eurovision, is starting up. One popstar who you won't see there is that lovely lady above, because she is a little too good for it. Her name is Zara Larsson, she had one of the best albums of 2014, and she is about to be huge.

Zara made it big in her home country of Sweden when she won a singing competition when she was just TEN YEARS OLD. Since then, Zara has become the premiere teen pop star by releasing one single after another since 2013, with "Uncover" being her first number one and real breakout moment.

Clearly, Zara represents everything amazing about Sweden. Organic drum beats, classic pop hooks, a killer delivery, and a certain genuineness that I don't get from singers like Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande. With this much potential at such a young age, you can't help but think Zara might be the next Robyn, and there is no higher honor I can think of.

You may have already heard of Zara's escapades thanks to her support of feminism by putting condoms on her leg. A true visionary of our generation. Besides her activism, highlights of her career include the two part single "She's Not Me", the amazing ballad "Weak Heart" and blockbuster hit "Carry You Home." But nothing is as good as the masterpiece that is "Rooftop."

The song and video see Ms. Larsson going to a barbecue on a rooftop in September, where she meets a hot guy, but someone gets set on fire before police come to arrest Zara. Brilliant. The song itself is one of those pop songs that sound urban without even trying and Zara delivers the love song with such honesty. Zara just released a new EP with all the best songs and has been touring with Cher Lloyd and Fifth Harmony in America so it looks like her breakthrough will be sooner than later. Until then, I'll be dancing on a rooftop till her album drops in the States.
